Export to Tekla® Structures from Metal 3D, CYPECAD and Integrated 3D structures of CYPECAD
Exported elements
CYPECAD, the Integrated 3D structures of CYPECAD and Metal
3D can export the analysed and designed structure to Tekla Structures (v
12.1 and 13.1).

External loads acting on the structure can be introduced in CYPECAD, Metal 3D
or the Integrated 3D structures, so to obtain its optimum design in accordance
with the selected code. Additionally, using the Joints
I, Joints II and Joints
III modules, construction details of bolted and welded connections of rolled and
welded I sections can be generated.
All this can be exported to Tekla Structures and obtain a 3D model in the program
with:
- The rolled, welded and cold formed sections described below:
|
Rolled sections
- I section
- T section
- U section
- Angle
- Symmetrical angle
- Batten plate
- Solid circular bar
- Solid square bar
|
Welded sections
- I section (without web stiffeners)
- I section with different flange dimensions
(without web stiffeners)
- U section
- Box section (without web stiffeners)
- T section
|
Cold formed sections
- Simple U section
- Rigid U section
- Simple Z section
- Rigid Z section
- Simple angle
- Box section
- Circular hollow section
|
- The remaining bars are described as generic bars (linear bars).
- If the licence
possessed by the user contains the Export to Tekla and Joints
I modules
of CYPE, the connections resolved by the Joints
I. Welded. module will
also be available in Tekla Structures.
- If the licence possessed by the
user contains the Export to Tekla and Joints II modules of CYPE, the
connections resolved by the Joints
II. Bolted. module will also be
available in Tekla Structures.
- If the licence possessed by the user
contains the Export to Tekla and Joints III modules of CYPE, the connections
resolved by the Joints
III. Welded. module will also be available
in Tekla Structures.
This way, the project designed by CYPECAD, Metal 3D or the Integrated 3D structures
of CYPECAD will have all the facilities and possibilities offered by Tekla Structures
available:
- For engineers
- Project drawings (elevations, layouts, 3D details…)
- Automatic drawing checks upon carrying out modifications
- Material take-off lists
- Model publication on Internet
- For workshops
- Marked numbering of the job
- Workshop drawings (details)
- CNC file generating for workshop machinery
Export options
Export to Tekla Structures is done using the option File > Export > Tekla Structures
in both CYPECAD and Metal 3D. In CYPECAD, all the Integrated 3D structures are exported
at once to Tekla Structures.
There are two options when exporting to Tekla Structures:

- Only geometry and properties of nodes and bars (Export to Tekla
module not required)
Exports the geometry and steel sections mentioned
in the Exported elements sections to Tekla Structures. The structure
does not have to be analysed or designed before it is exported. It
does not include the export of joints and so these do not have to be
designed before exporting either.
To
export to Tekla Structures using this option, the user is not required
to have the Joints I, Joints
II, Joints
III or Export to Tekla modules.

- Complete
detailing of the structure, including joints (Export to
Tekla and Joints I, Joints II or Joints III modules required)
Export
to Tekla Structures includes: the geometry of the job, the steel sections
of the types listed in the Exported elements section, and the detailing
corresponding to the steel elements designed by the Joints I, Joints
II and Joints III modules (depending on the Joints module acquired
with the user license). The job and joints must be analysed before exporting to
Tekla Structures.
In order
to use this option, the user license must contain the Export to Tekla
module as well as, at least, one of the Joints modules:
Requirements for exporting to Tekla Structures
The following aspects should be taken into account for CYPECAD or Metal 3D to export
to Tekla Structures:
- “Microsoft .NET Framework 2” (free download and use software) must
be installed. If this work environment is not installed in the user
PC, CYPECAD or Metal 3D will detect this and ask for the user’s consent to install
it.
- Tekla Structures (v12.1 or 13.1) must be installed, with some
of the following modules
- Steel detailing (complete version)
- Steel detailing (limited version)
- Complete detailing
- Reinforced concrete detailing
- Precast concrete detailing
- Standard design (engineering version)
The Tekla Structures Viewer, Project management and Draughter modules cannot import
the information provided by Metal 3D, CYPECAD or Integrated 3D structures of CYPECAD.
- CYPE user licenses must contain the following:
Other CYPECAD modules
- Concrete columns
- Concrete beams
- Steel columns
- Steel beams
- Joist floor slabs (generic concrete joists)
- In-situ, prefabricated and steel joist floors (Joist floor module required)
- Waffle slabs
- Flat slabs
- Composite slabs
- Hollow core slabs
- Shear walls
- Reinforced concrete walls
- Stairs
- Mat foundations and foundation beams
- Concrete block walls
- Pile caps (includes strap and tie beams)(*)
- Pad foundations (isolated and combined) (includes strap and tie beams)(*)
- Baseplates(*)
- Automatic job introduction
- Aluminium sections
- Timber sections
- Joints I. Welded. Warehouses with rolled and welded steel I sections
- Joints II. Bolted. Warehouses with rolled and welded steel I sections
- Joints III. Welded – Building frames with rolled and welded steel I sections
- Export to Tekla
- Export to TecnoMETAL
- Export to in CIS/2 format
(*) Common modules: Pile caps, Pad foundations and base plates are operative
for both CYPECAD and METAL 3D.
Other Metal 3D modules
- Footings
Includes the analysis and design of reinforced or mass concrete footings.
These can be square, rectangular, eccentric, corner or edge centred.
This a common module for Metal 3D and CYPECAD.
- Pile Caps
Analyses and designs pile caps for multiple piles. A wide range of
types are available. They may hold 1, 2, 3 and 4 piles; linear and
rectangular pile caps for any number of piles; pentagonal pile caps
for 5 and 6 piles, and hexagonal for 6 and 7 piles. Includes the analysis
and design of strap and tie beams. It is a common module for Metal
3D and CYPECAD.
- Baseplates
Designs baseplates for any steel column arrangement (simple and composed
sections). This a common module for Metal 3D and CYPECAD.
- Timber sections
Analyses and designs rectangular (constant or variable) and circular
section bars. They may be composed of sawn wood (conifer and poplar
species), sawn wood (frondescent species), homogenous glue laminated
wood and combined glue laminated wood. It also carries
out a fire resistance check.
- Joints I. Warehouses with rolled and welded steel I sections
Analyses and designs welded connections of I sections according to
CTE. DB SE-A code and Eurocode 3 of various types.
- Joints II. Bolted. Warehouses with rolled and welded steel I sections
Designed to carry out an automatic analysis and design of I section bolted connections
using prestressed or ordinary bolts (non-prestressed) displayed in
the Types of implemented
bolted connections.
